Richard Brunson is a seasoned conductor and music educator whose work bridges university classrooms, community ensembles, and church music ministries. As an associate professor at an Indiana college, Dr. Brunson has guided future music teachers through courses in aural training and methods for teaching music at the elementary level, while mentoring student teachers and leading campus ensembles in regular performance. His teaching blends practical rehearsal pedagogy with a strong grounding in music history and score study.
Beyond higher education, Dr. Brunson has been closely associated with the musical life of Marshfield, Wisconsin. From 2017 to 2023 he served as artistic director of the Central Chamber Chorale, organizing highly attended winter and spring programs that often united the Marshfield Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir, and Community Singers. He has also directed the choir at Faith Lutheran Church, shaping worship services through thoughtful selection and preparation of choral literature.
Active as both performer and teacher, Dr. Brunson offers private brass and piano instruction through the Elkhart School of Music. His scholarly interests focus on British music, particularly the work of Ralph Vaughan Williams. He presented on The Pilgrim’s Progress at the International Conductors Guild conference in London in 2025 and is developing a research project exploring Ralph Vaughan Williams and J.R.R. Tolkien as English modernists. His conducting has been recognized internationally, including a second-place award in the London Classical Soloists Orchestra Conducting Competition.
